Have you ever had a customer take your proposal and use the information in it to try to implement the solution themselves, or with another consultant? Seems like the situation is ripe for that sort of abuse; I put a certain amount of work into researching the best solution for my client, and in some cases, THAT is the hardest part. Figuring out what they need. My most recent one, I specified the hardware devices down to the model number. I guess the only safeguard against it is the client's fear for their reputation.
